B.A.F.F.L.E.D. Tops

Top 5 Emerging Legal Fields

We all know things are progressing faster than ever before.  Whether it's technology, medical advancement, or the way we use energy, the changes are rapid.  With so many advancements in our society, new ways to legislate and govern them must arise as well.

Today, B.A.F.F.L.E.D. is spotlighting the top 5 emerging legal fields, as they connect to the way our world is moving.  Let us know what you think!

1. Cyber Law - It is literally everywhere.  From the rise in internet use, to the sometimes scary and sketchy ways the internet is used, cyber law attorneys are working very hard out there.  Just as new apps are created, new crimes are as well.  Lawyers in the field must always stay on top of their game.

2. Marketing Law - This one isn't as new, but is emerging into different sectors, and growing because of the ways standard marketing is changing.  Integrated Market Research is becoming increasing important to brand marketing, and large corporations are taking no chances when it comes to the legalities.

3. Telecommunications Law - It's different from cyber law, in the sense of it largely covering radio, phones, and television, but the 3 are closely linked because of our many devices with multiple services and features.

4. Energy Law - It is less new than some others, but is growing because of research and the widely known needs for conservation.  Green jobs have never seen the attention they're getting now, and it will only get better.  Studies surrounding global warming are also impacting this field.

5. Animal Law - Yep, this field is growing pretty fast these days.  Not only is there a higher number of vegetarians and vegans fighting for animal rights, but animal lovers in general are doing their part of take a stance against improper handling of animals.

What area do you see gaining in the legal field?

Cookies Making a Difference

That's right.  Cookies can make a difference.  Usually, cookies are the enemy of most diets, but in some instances, cookies can save lives!

Glad, the kitchen product maker is the proud sponsor of Cookies for Kids' Cancer.  This is a non-profit organization, dedicated to raising money in support of pediatric cancer research.  So not only can we enjoy yummy cookies,  but we can support a wonderful cause.  Celebrities are even getting involved, and hosting bake sales in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.  According to Glad, pediatric cancer is the main cause of death by disease of children in the U.S. This is largely due to the need for more research.

If you'd like to support the cause, click here for more info!

Is Your Bank Extorting You?

It is no secret our economy has been in shambles for the last couple years.  Everyone is trying to figure out what to do, where to get money, and the best ways to save.  We all think our banks are safe-havens for the money we do have, but it seems this may be more difficult.

Banks have been using an array of tricks lately to secure their bottom line, while hitting their patrons with fee after fee. What is the point of having money in the bank if you are slapped with a list of fees?  Here are some of the fees you could see on your account:

-Have at least 1 direct deposit of $500 or more per month to avoid a monthly service fee on your account.  Individual deposits totaling $500 will still be charged a fee.

-Have a  minimum balance of $1500 or more in the account on a daily basis

-Incur a $1 charge for printing account statements at the ATM

-Pay $12 per month for certain checking accounts when you do not meet certain criteria

These fees are not only a surprise to consumers, but disheartening when  we hope our money will be better protected in a recovering economy.  Check your mailbox for changes in your accounts and beware!

Twisted Fantasy is Right!

Over the years, Kanye West has treated us to great music, poetic lyrics, unforgettable beats, and unforgettable outbursts!  This artist is quite the paradox of entertainment, making us both bob and shake our heads at him.

'Ye's latest creation, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is not only blazing with feature artist, like Q-Tip, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Elton John, Ryan Leslie, and more, but is also the highlight of his G.O.O.D. Music spotlight, G.O.O.D. Fridays.

Despite heated controversy over Kanye's recent interview with Matt Lauer on Today, the release of this new album has been much anticipated.  Not only is it packed with features, but the content is pleasing critics everywhere!  Much of the music makes reference to the untimely passing of Kanye's mom, Donda West, his frustrations with media and government, and his quest to continue being the best in the game.

We all know Kanye is one of a kind.  Maybe those outbursts are the fuel he needs to keep our speakers happy.  See Me Now is a B.A.F.F.L.E.D. fave!

B.A.F.F.L.E.D. Sports

Youth Sports:  Business or Pleasure?

With the many changes we've seen in media and technology in the last decade, changes in other areas have been almost innate.  More industries are seeking monetary gains and publicity through the various ways we have to connect with one another instantly.  Youth sports is no different.

What was once a pastime for our children to get exercise, make friends, and learn teamwork is now gaining more business traits.  Amateur sports are putting new pressures on children, especially with endorsement deals for teams, and increased exposure for coaches.  Youth sports are even getting into the reality TV game, with shows like MTV's Two-a-Days.

The NBA and NCAA have partnered to produce iHoops, a development of youth programs to improve the quality of youth basketball in America.  It seems partnerships like this are the safest in getting our youth to focus on the game, teamwork, and personal growth, rather than monetary gains or media attention.

Are we putting too much on youth in their athletic endeavors?  Should they be working on their games like the pros?

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month!

Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer for both men and women.  It is the cancer starting in the cells of the tubes lining the lungs.  This form of cancer is most common in older adults, and comes in 2 forms.

1. Non-small Cell Lung Cancer - This is the most common, and spreads the slowest.
2. Small Cell Lung Cancer - This form is less common, but spreads much quicker than NSCLC.

Lung cancer is greatly caused by cigarette smoke, with the chances of developing the ailment increasing with the amount of daily smoke exposure.  Secondhand smoke also increases the risk of lung cancer.  According to the American Cancer Society, about 3,000 non-smoking adults will die each year from lung cancer related to secondhand smoke exposure.

Other causes include:
-High levels of air pollution
-High levels of arsenic in drinking water
-Radon gas
-Family history of lung cancer
-Radiation therapy to the lungs
-Exposure to cancer-causing chemicals such as uranium, beryllium, vinyl chloride, nickel chromates, coal products, mustard gas, chloromethyl ethers, gasoline, and diesel exhaust

With November being Lung Cancer Awareness Month, LungCancer.org is promoting free support services, workshops, and calls to action.  These efforts are just some of the ways we can work to combat lung cancer, and stop its takeover in our society.  Many states have gone "smoke-free", where no smoking is allowed inside any building.  These efforts not only protect smokers, but nonsmokers as well.

B.A.F.F.L.E.D. Fashion Fix

This Fashion Business

This posting is a little more than a fashion fix, but also a glimpse and fashion's place in our changing economy.  The economy is allegedly seeing an upswing, while many impacted industries have now learned the lesson of flexibility.  Like many other markets, the fashion industry struggled when the economy took a downturn.  Just the same, the industry found ways to adapt and continue to prosper.

The Introduction of Fast Fashion
Photo from BusinessWeek.com
As the market has changed over the last 3 years, "fast fashion" has become a dominating force.  Fast Fashion is the rapidly emerging trend of quickly produced designs hitting the retail floors in as little as 1 week after being sketched.  Some brands, like H& M, get shipments at their large metropolitan stores up to 3 times per day, to keep store racks full of the low priced, yet fashionable selections.

Eco/Green Fashion
As a means for saving the planet, the fashion industry is doing its part "go green".  Many stores are creating eco-friendly shopping spaces, pop-up stores, fashion trucks, and promoting the use of reusable shopping bags.  When savings can be made on overhead and incidentals, those same savings can be passed on to consumers.

Luxuries Built to Last
This trend is not so new, but has been of great importance in this changing industry.  Large luxury brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel stand by their promise to provide lifetime guarantees on their goods.  This promise has become increasingly important in a market where money must go a long way.

Investment Fashion
Online shopping has taken a greater role in our changing economy, especially with physical stores closing.  Being just an online outlet is not enough these days.  Now, online vendors are even allowing consumers to get involved in the experience by offering opportunities to buy into the company, or get discounted rates by supporting the brand financially, and donating to causes close to them.

Many retailers are also putting everything on sale, and offering additional percentages off where they haven't before.  Holiday shopping seasons are starting earlier, and consumers are finding unprecedented deals.

Fashion is all about the experience.  These trends are surely giving consumers new ways to enjoy shopping.....and stimulate the economy!

Happy Birthday United States Marine Corps!

Established in 1775, the United States Marine Corps is today celebrating 235 years of excellence.  As America's first line of defense in any battle, long-time protectors of the President, and United States Embassies in all other nations, the USMC has maintained its title as "The Few, The Proud".

Latin for "always faithful," Semper Fidelis became the Marine Corps motto in 1883. It guides Marines to remain faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to country, no matter what.

Marines take their pledge and oath to protect our nation very seriously.  Equipped with the highest and most scrutinizing training of any armed force, this elite group produces fierce fighters and model citizens.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month!

Diabetes is a disease affecting million of Americans in various ways, each and everyday.  Diabetes is actually a group of diseases, characterized by high blood glucose levels, resulting from the body's deficiency in producing insulin.

Each year, awareness about diabetes sparks during the month of November, largely through the efforts of the American Diabetes Association.  This amazing organization actually puts together efforts all year long, in pursuit of a cure for such a crippling condition.

In many instances, diabetes can be controlled through proper eating habits and exercise.  As greater efforts and funding is put into diabetes research, we can get closer to combating its prevalence.  Diabetes can often be genetic, and based on one's diet, but it really can affect us all.  Some notable people outside our inner circles living with and fighting diabetes include Halle Berry, Bret Michales, Jay Cutler, Drew Carey, Larry King, Patti LaBelle, Nick Jonas, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Now That The Votes Are In....

With today being 2 days after the midterm election, the climate of the upcoming terms will be quite interesting.  As suspected, many of the Democratic seats filled upon President Obama's 2008 arrival in the White House have been refilled with Republican seats.  The Green and Tea Parties have upped their ante in politics as legitimate participants.  Granted, the frustration of the state of our union is rampant, but the quick outpouring may have been premature.  We have years of things to clean up, and a major swap out at the midterm may not be the answer.

This year was rough for all political parties, as some sought greater recognition, others redemption, and all were vying to stay afloat.  The toughest task was the non-connected voters; those not having a political or social service affiliation, but contacted because of their registered voter status.  Many voters quickly grew frustrated with the onslaught of robocalls and messages they received.

The political climate is in a similar position to the economy, riddled with challenges we must overcome.  It's the nature of the 2; they have upswings and downswings, critical to our society in ways not obvious to the untrained eye.  Politics and economics are volatile, and must more in cycles.  The length of the cycle is what's lies in our hands more than we realize.

How do you feel about today's political climate?  What do you think will spur its upswing back to greater patriotism? How about the economy?  Do you see it taking its natural upswing sometime soon??

And a little food for thought...."Together with material development, we need spiritual development so that inner peace and social harmony can be experienced." - Dalai Lama
