The March on Washington--

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. The march was monumental for American history, not just the history of African-Americans. This march was a symbol of people uniting and coming together peacefully for a common good. Today, it often seems like this work was in vain, as the unity is not as strong as it was this day 50 years ago.

Despite the fact of our world being very different 50 years later, the March on Washington made a major statement. At a time when rights were at a premium, this event showed many segments of society--government, rich, poor, middle class, and all races, what positive action can really do.

Many populations are still fighting for rights today. Hopefully in even less than 50 years from now, we can say the fight is not as tough for everyone to truly be equal.

The Washington Post shares commemorative event highlights and ins and outs around D.C.

Let's work to be more tolerant and inclusive, and ignorant and divisive.
