Top 6 Shopping Tips from Lanvin--

We've given you some of our fashion and shopping tips, and shared some from Michael Kors.  Today, we're giving you some of the things Lanvin thinks are important when making purchases for your style.

1.  Wear the type of clothes that let you be who you really are.  Have the wardrobe which lets you be yourself, not who a designer says you should be.

2.  Take a high fashion approach to lower-priced clothing.  Wait for the piece that satisfies you instead of searching for a bargain.

3. Trust the mirror.  Designers and magazines offer general advice, but the mirror, and how you feel are the best source.

4.  Respect your age.  Nothing is more appealing than someone who embraces maturity.  Clearly this is a tip stretching farther than shopping.  We'll add, you should always be happy with the age you are.  You define it, not social standards.

5.  Find your colors.  The right color gives you power, no matter what it is.

6.  Be selective, not impulsive.  Before you jump in to buy, buy, buy, consider what you need.  If you want to bring newness to anything, be it work or your love life or your wardrobe, you must appreciate what you have.

These tips are priceless.  We hope they're helpful!

Light The Night!

We're reminding you about supporting this great cause, working to find a cure for cancer.  Our Fashion Law Friend at Femme Legale is working hard on "Light the Night" in Canada, and we want to support her mission.

Here's a little about the cause:

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s ‘Light The Night’ Walk will raise funds to bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers. The funds raised from this event will be dedicated to life-saving research, educational materials and events for patients and their families, programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection, a peer-to-peer counseling program, and personalized assistance through the LLSC’s Information Resource Centre.

The walk is set for October 19.

We all know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  With so many reasons to support the cause, we're giving you just a few more.  These are some of the products on the market right now which also send a portion of their proceeds to support research and finding a cure.  Them being pink definitely helps!

1.  Stila Cosmetics Smudge Pot
I got one of these at Ulta and am completely obsessed with it.  The charcoal colored smudge is dazzled with pink iridescent sparkles.  You can elongate your lashes when using it as a liner--particularly because the brush is included!  $1 of each one sold goes to support breast cancer awareness.

2.  IMAN Pink Luxury Lip
IMAN Cosmetics is partnering with Sisters Network’s Young Sister Initiative and donating $20,000 from IMAN Pink Luxury Lip Stain profits during the month of October. Grab this one for just $10 at Target

3.  Sephora's Pink Brush Set
The Sephora BCA Brush Set has 5 great brushes with a fab bag to match. Sephora is donating $1 from each sale to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The set is $36.

4.  Honor, The Vapour's Lip Gloss
Honor, part of the the Elixir Lip Plumping Gloss collection, is the face of BCA for Vapour this month. All proceeds from the sales of this gloss will be donated to benefit breast cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic Learner Research Institute where they are working towards the first breast cancer vaccine.  You can't beat a mission like that! This product is $22 on vapourbeauty.com

5. The Ulta Bracelet and Mirror
While you're in Ulta, you might as well donate $5 to the cause and get this cute compact mirror, and/or this bracelet set.  No choice is bad here, ladies.

6.  Orly's "Pretty In Pink" Nail Collection
The BCA collection is back, and Orly is donating 20% of its profits to Cancer Schmancer, an organization dedicated to education, prevention and early detection of cancer. $10-- orlybeauty.com

Top 7 Things to Know About Domestic Violence Awareness--

We share this one every year, and want to always make its importance knows.  October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Although we see a lot of promotions about Breast Cancer Awareness this month--an equally important cause-- we must also keep domestic violence awareness in mind.

Domestic violence is an unfortunate commonality in too many homes across America.  In order to fight this epidemic we must educate and spread the word.

1. Domestic violence sees no race, color, ethnic background, or economic status.  It affects people in all walks of life.  Men are also impacted, not just women and children.

2. Domestic violence is cyclical.  Although many who are abused feel pain and resent their abusers, they often go on to repeat the behavior.  For children, it is often the only way they know.  Without education and therapy to deal with the circumstance, the problem perpetuates.

3. Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) evolved from the "Day of Unity" in October 1981, conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became an entire week devoted to a range of activities conducted at the local, state, and national levels.

4. Due to lack of resources, the number of survivors to whom local Coalitions Against Domestic Violence (CADV) have provided shelter has decreased by 20%, while the number of victims turned away has increased by 16% over the last four years.  In the last year alone CADVs saw a drastic 12% drop in the number survivors who obtained safe, emergency shelter. Despite this fact, survivors and their children received over 522,000 hours of service last year alone.

5. Help is available at all times.  Victims, and even offenders who know they need help, may not know where to turn.  To get things rolling, anyone can call the National Domestic Violence Helpline at 1-800-799-SAFE.

6.  Safety Plans help.  The hotline is an amazing tool, but creating safety plans takes things a step further.  The plan will help victims route their escape from pain and chart their journey to a better life.  Plans can include starting a separate savings account, thinking of exit routes from the home, avoiding arguments where weapons are readily accessible, i.e. the kitchen, and having someone available at all times to pick you up or be home when you need them.  For more ideas, click here.

7. There's always a hope for change.  No matter how tough the situation appears; for you or someone you're witnessing, various outlets are available to stop the cycle and give families strength.

We all should become as educated as possible on the signs and resolutions for domestic violence.  If you are experiencing or sensing signs---say or do something.  Don't wait.  Domestic violence is nothing to take lightly, and we must all do our part in fighting this situation.  With so many tough circumstances to face these days, violence among loved ones is the last one we need.

Help today.
