Michael Jackson--

5 years ago today, we lost the greatest entertainer to ever grace a stage.  Michael Jackson revolutionized music, performance, and fashion in so many ways.  Although we no longer have him here with us, we have the music and looks to last us a lifetime.   The recent release of Xscape, an album with original demos and remastered versions of unreleased tracks, has given us the revival of the King of Pop we needed.

How "bad" are you when you can be gone for 5 years, but still have your music placed in Jeep commercials?!

Rest in Peace, Michael.

Here are some of our favorite songs and picture from his lifetime of hits.

Brand Fave: Urban Decay!

Urban Decay has yet to disappoint, and there's high doubt it will ever happen.  For the last few years, they have been impressing beauties time and time again with their products.  Of course UD is popular for the Naked line, but there's more.  Here are some of the best--

Eye shadow primer
This product comes in various forms--for metallic shadows, crease prevention, etc.  However, the basic version completely hooks you in.

I NEVER put anything on my eyes without this going on first.   When I tell you I had fresh eyes for 12+ hours on a 90-degree day, I can completely attest it to this primer.  It keeps shadows lasting and also trues up the colors.  You can't go wrong with this one.  It is a MUST have in your beauty arsenal.

The Electrics
It's the eyeshadow pallet you've been waiting for.  The pigments are bold, and the wear is long-lasting.  You'll be obsessed with these colors.  Be warned, the pallet is not totally "work appropriate", but there are ways to pull it off (lining, corner accenting...).  These colors are perfect for summer.  You can use the pallet to take any look up a level, or just to have fun with such an array.  Check out some of the looks!

Shattered Face Case
Great for your on-the-go bag.  This was a special, but certainly comes around in different forms throughout the year.  The case included 5 shadows you can wear with almost anything, blushes and lip color.

Lipstick
The lipsticks are smooth and non-drying.  Although some sort of lip treatment is always a good idea under any lip color, Urban Decay does not damage your lips as a sacrifice for color.  The range goes from bold, evening looks to neutral, more calm looks for work.  Again, and again--can't go wrong here.  (See Anarchy lipstick above)

Needless to say Urban Decay is a Beauty Brand Fave!  Check out their latest launches.  You won't be disappointed.

B.A.F.F.L.E.D. For Dads

Happy Father's Day!

I always love sharing this post.   My Daddy means the world to me and I am beyond thankful for him.  He has taught me so much, and there's never any way I could enumerate or repay it.  He has not only had an influence on me, but so many others.  Here are some reasons why...

---

1.  Be a good decision-maker.
Daddy and I the day I was sworn in as an attorney.
Many times, we think things are just happening to us, or the world is mad at us for some reason.  Daddy helped me realize, nothing is by accident.  The decisions you make in life, big and small, set the stage for what will and won't happen ahead.  When things are going well, you can look back and see the choices you made as the reason--same as when things are not going so well.

In Daddy's words, "We control our own destiny."  It's true there are many things beyond our control, but making the best decisions on the ones in your hands is essential.

2. The key to success is doing the things no one likes to do.
You don't want to hear this one as a kid, but as an adult, you realize how true it is.  Often, the difference between happy and successful people, and the unhappy strugglers is the ability to just suck it up and do what you have to for the end goal.  We all come across things we don't want to do--they take too long, they're too hard, no one else is doing them, you just don't feel like it--the list is endless.  This is the case for everyone, but the decision to do what you must no matter what is usually the difference-maker.  I take this lesson with me everyday.

3. Be good, be helpful.
Daddy still tells me "if you can help someone, help them".  He's so right, and why not?  A lot of times, it's easy to consider what's in it for you, but maybe the chance to help someone else is what's in it for you.  Do you really need more?  After all, what goes around, comes around, so there's really no need to worry.

*This is actually a bonus lesson:  Don't worry.  If you've planned and are doing what you are supposed to do, you don't have time to worry.

4. Do not let your fears dictate your actions.
I keep this in mind so often, especially when a major decision needs to be made.  My Daddy has taught me about fear, and helped me realize, there's no need for it.  We all get scared from time to time, or frightened at the encounter of a surprise, but we cannot let fear of anything we face dictate what's necessary for us to do or achieve.  Fears are just roadblocks, and letting them stand in the way of our actions does nothing more than just hold us back.  When I think I may be facing fear, I remember it's just an illusion.

5. Keep your word.
The importance of this one is immeasurable.  Your word is sometimes all you have as an adult, with the countless circumstances you'll encounter.  Whether it's at work or in a personal relationship, being trustworthy is what will precede and succeed everything you do.  It is easy to make promises, but it takes real effort to keep them.  I can't think of one thing my Daddy has told me which hasn't held up, and I want to be sure people can say the same about me.  To some, this seems to be quite difficult, which is hard to understand, but there is nothing like the truth.  We should all embrace it.

I hope you all enjoyed these lessons as much as I did sharing them.  I am blessed to know I have many more lessons ahead for Daddy to share with me, and am even more thankful to have the ones I do.

Love you Daddy!!

Summer Fashion Tips for Men--

As promised, we're finishing Men's Health Week strong and giving you the style tips you need for this great weather while getting you guys ready for the weekend.  We've shared the foundational fashion tips you need to get you started.  Now, we're giving you some guidelines for the warm weather.

1.  Keep a hat on deck.
You might want to get a bit of a tan, but it's always good to have a hat close to keep the shade from burning your swag.  Fedoras are sexy, and baseball caps are classic.  Rock the top making you feel your best.

2.  Watch your feet!
Some guys feel like the spa pedicure is a bit out of the "man scope".  Fine.  But, this is no excuse for ignoring lotion and toenail clippers.  Just keeping it real guys.  Nixing the scented lotion is one thing--looking like you stepped in flour is another.

3.  Embrace bright colors.
Guys, the sun is out and the temperatures are high.  It's ok to don a pastel or 2 with your favorite jeans or khakis.  Ladies like some shine in their sights ;)

4.  Shades are a must!
Fashionable sunglasses are so necessary in the long days of summer.  For 1, the sun shines pretty bright.  And 2--well, they just look good!

5.  Check your hair.
Whether you have long hair or a slick wavy fade, be sure your hair is in check.  Warm weather can make for messy hair, and a tough situation.  Trips to the barber and daily maintenance are a must.

Happy Weekend, Gents!

Wear Blue!

In continuance with our Men's Health Week posts, we're highlighting the Wear Blue campaign.  Wear BLUE was created by the Men’s Health Network to raise awareness about men’s health issues.  This campaign is active all throughout the year, and encorages people to not only wear blue in support of men's health awareness, but share knowledge and take action as well.

The Wear Blue initiative works at spreading the word and reducing the predominantly silent crisis in the health and well-being of men. It is because of limited awareness, poor health education, and culturally induced behaviors men’s health and well-being are deteriorating steadily.  We can all do our part to make this better.
Wear BLUE

Not only can you wear blue, but also host your own educational event to spread awareness helping yourself and other men in your life get, or stay on the right track.  A Wear BLUE event can educate men, women, and their families of the need to raise awareness of this silent crisis in men’s health.  Let's make sure our men are as healthy and educated as can be, while setting an example for young boys, the men of our future.

Top Men's Fashion Tips--

We mentioned on Monday, this is Men's Health Week, so we're dedicating all the posts this week to the gents.  Today, we will be recapping fashion tips shared here in the past.  This first set includes general fashion tips to help you get through every day.  Friday, we'll share our summer fashion tips--those are obviously quite pertinent, but these are the foundation of style.
----

1.  Stay crisp and clean.
This is a simple one.  All we ask is for you to shave and trim regularly, while also making the iron or steamer your friend.  These 2 things are fundamental, and can often save you from an overall bad look.  Don't let these go by the wayside.  As a throw-in, we'll add the accuracy of the Gillette Mach 3 razor.  The shave is close, and with a moisturizing shaving cream, you'll keep your skin healthy.

2.  Don't buy another white dress shirt.

We already know you have some, but you should maintain this number.  If you need to replace one, go for it, but adding to the collection?  There's no need.  There are other colors out there to match an arsenal of ties--blue, red, black, a variety of pastels.  Trust yourself (and me) to don a shirt other than white sometimes,  We are not discouraging the white shirt all together.  But, if you want to put in just a bit more effort, try a color, forcing you to consider what tie and pocket square to match.  White is easy, colors get attention.
*This is not a suggestion to dress like a kaleidoscope, just to provide variety in your look.

3.  Wear a hat.

Hats are great.  Even if it's your winter skully, wearing a hat can change up your whole look.  Hats make great accessories--without making you feel like you're accessorizing.  Fedoras are definitely a coveted look.

4. Wear a hoodie.

Ok, this one may come as a surprise, but the hoodie can be worn in a fashionable way.  It can show style, yet comfort.  These days, hoodies come in a variety of styles.  We don't too much condone the oversized look, but an appropriately sized hoodie, representing your favorite team or motto is a nice look for any given Saturday afternoon.  Add nice jeans, and heads will turn--promise.

5.  Understand your shape.

We all come in different shapes and sizes.  This is important to keep in mind when shopping and dressing.  Skinny jeans may be in, but if you have a long torso or short legs, embrace the fact they aren't for you.  But something is.  If you have longer legs, slim-cut jeans are a better option, as are bigger fitting tops.  For the guy with not so long legs, don't fret.  Boot cut or slightly baggy jeans are for you.  They give your legs length and with a nice button-up or cardigan, you can show onlookers just how right your size is.

Be careful not to get so caught up in the trend that you forget what works best for your body type.  Broad shouldered-gents, be cautions with horizontal stripes.  It's not a no-no, just make sure the stripes give the look you want.  If you're a thicker guy, watch the prints and patterns.  Being flashy is fine, but too much of anything is never good.

6.  Watch your "highlight pieces".

Coordinating your look is great, but please don't go overboard.  You never need to have everything you wear be the same color or shade.  You don't have to overdo the jewelry, hats and matching shoelaces.  You also don't have to draw attention to every part of your outfit.  Pick 1 thing you want to highlight--1:  Your hat, nice shoes, fancy-pocked jeans, smooth gent cardigan, nice printed shirt.  One or the other, guys--never all at the same time.  Every piece you wear can be nice and eye-catching without catching the raised eyebrow.  Let's keep it simple and save the Christmas trees for December.

7.  Be confident.
If you feel good, you'll send the message to others, too. Having "swag" is all about what you project when you dress. If sunglasses seal your look for you, wear them.  If you like glasses just for style and not vision aides, rock them.  Do what makes you feel best.

8.  Chose fit over cost.
Wearing pricey brands can have its advantages, particularly if the quality meets the price.  However, there are quality clothes at lower price points.  Don't be afraid to give them a try.  Be careful being too cheap, though.  You do get what you pay for.  You may want to consult a seasoned shopper's help on this one.

It's also important to have timeless pieces--a great watch, chain, jacket, etc.  Having timeless pieces always keeps you fashionable, no matter what the current trend is.  Some things never go out of style and investing in a timeless piece can save you dollars in between.

9.  Don't wear a uniform.
We're not talking law enforcement or military, here.  We mean rocking the same look all the time.  People should not expect to see you in the same thing, different color or prints, all the time.  Know what looks good on you, but find a few things to choose from.

10.  Take a page from the book of other guys.
Some guys are more fashion conscious than others.  Some are on top of every trend, and others just want to look nice without the worry.  If you know a guy, famous or not, who seems to be right on target, follow his lead.  You gents can help each other more than you know.

We hope these are helpful.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow!!

Top 5 Things Men Need to Know About Testicular Cancer--

While making our way through Men's Health Week, we want to be sure to note a serious topic for optimal men's health.  Testicular cancer is something all men need to be aware of.  Know the signs, prevention methods, and all you can do to keep healthy.

This one is a sensitive subject, but we want our male readers to be as healthy as possible.  After getting some great information from B.A.F.F.L.E.D. health consultant, Nurse Courtney Watkins, MSN, we have a few tips for guys to keep in mind and put into practice.

1. Unlike breast exams for women, the American Cancer Society doesn't specifically recommend self-exams.  ACS strongly recommends regular doctor visits, so a professional can be certain there are no problems.  If you haven't seen your doctor recently, call them--now.

2. Although a self-exam is not the first choice for monitoring testicular cancer, here are some tips for checking yourself at home....you know, between doctor visits.

3.  Men of the highest risk are between the ages of 15-35.  It is rare for young boys and older men.

4. There are 2 main types of testicular cancer:
Seminoma: This is a slow-growing form of testicular cancer usually found in men in their 30s and 40s. The cancer is usually just in the testes, but it can spread to the lymph nodes. Seminomas are very sensitive to radiation therapy.
Nonseminoma: This more common type of testicular cancer tends to grow more quickly than seminomas. Nonseminoma tumors are often made up of more than one type of cell, and are identified according to 4 different cell types.

5. Some men experience no symptoms, but if they do, they could include:
-Pain in the back or lower abdomen

-Lump or swelling in either testicle

-Discomfort or pain in the testicle, or a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum

-Excess development of breast tissue (gynecomastia), however, this can occur normally in adolescent boys who do not have testicular cancer

-Enlargement of a testicle or a change in the way it feels

Again, we know this is a touchy topic, but taking care of yourself is more important than almost anything we have.  Contribute to your optimal health and take care of yourself!

Top Looks of the CFDA Awards--

Yesterday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America not only honored Tom Ford with a Lifetime Achievement Award, but also had some great looks grace their stage and red carpet.

Take a look a these hot looks and tell us what you think!

---

Blake Lively and Busy Phillips both chose cute form-fitting dresses.  Busy's accent necklace was the perfect added touch.

Plum was a ravishing choice for Bridget Moynahan.  She looked great and sparkled in this gown.

Chrissy Teigen had a cute orange look.  The warm color was a nice touch of spring.  Her natural-toned shoes were the right addition.  Obviously this model is well put-together.

Fashion Queen Diane von Furstenberg gave us a relaxed summer look.  Her yellow tunic and white clutch with feathered shoes showed she is certainly an established icon.

Another Queen in the fashion world, Iman, hit us with beauty in blue  She mixed shades of blue and accented with a bold black belt.  As always, she was ready for the camera.  Her necklace made just as much of a statement as her hair and makeup.

Songbird Jennifer Hudson gave us a barely basic black look.  There was sass from head to toe.  Her pixie cut, varied shoulder gown, and ruffled black shoes were monochromatic, but far from boring.

Rihanna gave us a look from the past, inspiring Ms. Josephine Baker, in her Old Hollywood sequined piece.  The headpiece, the fur, it was all nostalgic, and just right for the winner of the Fashion Icon Award.  It was a bit controversial to some, and certainly kept people talking.  She never disappoints.

We should also note Ms. Bethann Hardison, the fashion activist who received this year's Founders Award.  She dazzled in Prubal Gurung as she took one of the most important accolades of the night.  Ravishing.

The CFDAs are always fabulous.  The Lincoln Center was filled with great looks, glamour, and hair and makeup ready for the magazine pages.  Can't wait 'til next year!
