B.A.F.F.L.E.D. Loves Chicago
Summertime Chi - North Shore Things~
This week, we are taking our restaurant and bar highlights to Ravenswood, Uptown (M's neighborhood), and Edgewater. The character of these neighborhoods is unmatched, and their cuisine is worth noting as well.
Special thanks as always to Anne Szkatulski, Emily DeYoe, and Cathy Yu --fellow legislative attorneys and Chicago enthusiasts-- for their major contributions to this series.
Check out these hot spots and enjoy!
RAVENSWOOD
Restaurants
Spacca NapolI. 1769 W. Sunnyside.
Best non-deep-dish pizza.
Whatever you order, ask for truffle oil on top.
Jibek Jolu. 5047 N Lincoln
Ave.
Central Asian food – really good meat soup. Something Borat would like.
Bars
Glenn’s Diner. 1820 W.
Montrose.
Seafood/cereal bar. NOT a diner. More expensive than you’d
anticipate, but overall a really excellent surprise of a place.
Other
Lill
Street Art Center. 4401 N Ravenswood Ave.
I took painting lessons here one summer.
It was pretty reasonably priced and very, very fun. Big plus – they have a great
café where you can dine surrounded by student-made art!
UPTOWN
Restaurants
Dollop Coffee. 4181 N. Clarendon.
Same owners as
Noble Tree and Kickstand – this is my favorite location of all the shops –
great coffee, good pie
Tweet. 5020 N Sheridan Rd (between
Argyle St & Carmen Ave).
Delicious,
generously portioned brunch. Connected to an amazing lesbian bar where you wait
for your table. I have only been there in the winter and it was super cozy, but
the yelp photos look like they have ample outdoor summer seating as well.
Demera. 4801 N Broadway St.
Ethiopian,
exactly the same as every other Ethiopian place I’ve been to, but this one’s
bigger which is good because Ethiopian is best in larger groups.
Tank Noodle. 4953 N. Broadway.
The pho
restaurant that white people like. My favorite in Little Saigon, I don’t care
what anyone says.
Sun Wah. 5041 N Broadway.
Unfriendly
(albeit efficient) service, but best Chinese food ever!
Bars
Carol’s Pub. 4659 N. Clark.
I
wish all my nights could end at Carol’s
EDGEWATER
Restaurants
Marigold. 4832 N. Broadway.
Fancy-ish,
delicious, great outdoor seating.
Bars
The Green Mill. 4802 N. Broadway.
Just
a great experience – not overrated, not touristy, just fun.
