Happy Birthday Father of Haute Couture!
Today in 1826, Charles Fredrick Worth was born--the Father of Haute Couture. Worth was the first fashion designer to put labels with his name on it in the clothes he made for others.
The English-born designer didn't just make his mark in the French fashion industry, he created it. After working as an apprentice for drapers, he expanded his repertoire to dressmaking, later launching his line House of Worth. Charles created designs for many notable women and clients as far as Boston and New York.
Of course we fashionistas are forever grateful for the trends set by Charles Frederick Worth. He gave us fashion, he gave us lines, he gave us couture!
